We’re supporting a young man and former client, Dallon Asnes, on his journey to benefit the lives of others this summear.

Now a bit from Dallon, who is a Freshmen student-athlete at Pomona College in California:

“I met Dave the summer before my sophomore year of high school. We were neighbors at the time. I went to his studio to learn about tips to increase my bench press to get stronger. Dave immediately brought me into his office and found me the pyramid bench press routine that he used when he was in high school. I was so eager to get started on it. He made a print out for me and walked me through it step by step. That was the bench press routine I stuck with for the rest of the summer.

Since then, Dave and I got to know each other well. I remember a lot of time we spent talking about my future goals in both sport and school and how to reach them. He and my brothers had a lot of good times playing wiffleball in Dave’s backyard. By applying some of the knowledge I learned from Dave and working hard to achieve my goals, I had the good fortune of becoming Tolland’s valedictorian last year and excelled as a baseball player. I also developed a passion for foreign languages, which used to drive Dave crazy when I tried to speak Spanish with him during wiffleball games.

Dallon is a pitcher for Pomona College in California who will be volunteering in the Outreach 360 program.

In August of 2014, I began my first semester at Pomona College in Claremont, California. I am a pitcher on our baseball team, and I am planning to declare a double major. During this season, I heard from a teammate about a volunteer program in the Dominican Republic. I got in touch with the program, and decided to commit my summer to volunteering with them.

This summer, I’m going to be going to Monte Cristi, a small town in the Dominican Republic, to volunteer. The Dominican Republic is a third world country with a relatively low literacy rate. Because I’m now fluent in Spanish, I’m going to be teaching children how to read. I’ll also be teaching English as it is such a valuable skill in the Dominican and will help the people to get jobs and break out of the cycle of poverty. Because of my baseball experience, I’ll also be a coach as part of a youth baseball program.

By myself, however, I’m not able to cover the minimum costs for housing and food as part of this program. True Health Unlimited has already very generously committed to help sponsor this project. But we still need some more help fundraising. If every person on this newsletter list were to donate $5, the fundraiser would end immediately.

I’m incredibly excited about this opportunity to make a difference abroad, especially to children, and be able to educate youth to help put them in a position in which they can improve their own lives and improve the living conditions of their families.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at dallon.asnes@pomona.edu or call me on my cell phone at 386-316-3719.

Anything really does help! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Dallon Asnes
